Volvo Repair: Volvo XC90 05 V8, volvo xc90, oldtimers

Question
Time to reset service light for regularly scheduled service, can it be done myself and how??

Answer
It can, but I forget exactly. I do remember one key fact though. It will not reset if there are any miles the trip 2 odometer. You zero both of them before attempting. It has to do with the ignition switch on, holding the odo. reset in, switching the key off, while still holding, switch the key back on and release the odo after more than three seconds??? That's close but I'm not sure it's exact. Try it and let me know. If I remember, I think I have a note on it at home and will check it? I always used the VADIS but I did run across the info. once, tried it, and it worked. Sorry the oldtimers is kicking in. VBG

Ok Irvin, I found my notes. Here's the reset procedure. This is for 1999 and up cars.

Turn the key to position one. (It's marked on the column) IE: I, II, III etc. You must be on trip one and there must be miles on it. Drive around the block first if you have to. Push and hold trip reset until miles disappear, keep holding, turn key to position three, do not start, wait until the the yellow triangle flashes, (on other cars when the miles reappear) then release button before three seconds elapse.
I still think you need to clear trip 2 before starting, but my notes make no mention of it. Maybe the oldtimers is working on me and it's the "you must have miles on trip 1" that I was remembering?
