Volvo Repair: 86 Volvo 740 stalling while driving, fuel pump relay, hall sensors

Question
Hey- my 86 volvo 740 has been having "sudden death" on the freeway/etc- while driving, it will suddenly lose all power- i have to get it off the road, shift to park, and restart it.
last night it wouldnt restart-required a jump.
heres the thing- it will crank, no strugglethere- lights all function, radio, etc- so i dont think its the battery-

could it be the fuel system, and if so whats the EASIEST way to check besides consulting my volvo mechanic?

Answer
Brandon, you need to have fuel pressure testing equipment in place when it stalls. If the pressure drops to zero, then it's probably the fuel pump relay.(common) or one of the in tank fuel pumps. You also may need to monitor spark to see if that system is going down. Hall sensors and ignition modules are common culprits.
