Volvo Repair: 75 245DL with redblock B20F, blown head gasket, blown head gasket symptoms

Question
I have a coolant leak at the front of the engine, which at first I thought was the water pump. Just today after driving for about 30 minutes on hills, I discovered that there was moisture all along the driver's side of the block which seemed to either be coming from or collecting at the seam between the head and the lower part of the engine. Could this be a blown head gasket leaking coolant on the outside of the engine? As far as I can tell I'm not having any other blown head gasket symptoms like compression loss, the car runs fairly well apart from some electrical issues which I am already working on. Is there any other way I can check to see if the leak is only at the water pump or more extensive?

Answer
Yes, start by drying/wiping everything off. Then pressurize the cooling system with a hand pump and radiator filler neck adapter. Do not excede 30psi. Then trace the leak. If you end up doing a headgasket replacement. Be SURE to check the head for warpage and have corrected before you reinstall.
