Volvo Repair: Volvo S60T, starter solenoid, ohmeter

Question
QUESTION: How can I test the Nutral Switch on the Auto Transmission.  I tried it in Park as well as "D" but the car won't crank.  I can crank it from the start relay but it won't run. It will run as long as I spray "starter Fluid" but when I stop, engine will quit.

ANSWER:    You'll have to dig down to it and test it with an ohmeter. I doubt this is your problem though. It sounds like your fuel pump circuit is not enabling too. If memory serves, the pump relay gets it's energy from one of the starter solenoid wires. Look at a schematic to verify.
Whin you ssay you jump it at the starter relay, did you mean the solenoid on the starter or the relay in the panel?

QUESTION: It won't even crank from the ignition switch.  I short the two leads at the panel where the starter relay is.  I have fuel pressure in the fuel line.

Answer
Ok, that's helpful. At that relay, are you getting the "pick" signal from the ignition switch? I believe it supplies a ground on Pin 86 or 87. 15 and 30 should be power and starter solenoid. 86 or 87 should have power all the time to the relay solenoid and the other pin suppies the ground from the igntion switch to energize the relay. I think it's 86 that supplies the ground? The one on the right as you are looking down into the relay socket. You can check it with a simple test light.
