Volvo Repair: 1999 Volvo V70XC, volvo v70xc, electrical portion

Question
When I turn the starter key into the off position it is sticking and doesn't want to go into the final position to enable it to be removed.

Is this something I could fix myself and how much would it cost?

  Try cleaning and lubricating the lock cylinder. Use brake clean with the wand and insert it in where the key goes. Use liberaly. Blow out with compressed air and let dry. Then do the same with JB 80 or equivelent. (A light penetrating oil.) Be ready with a rag as both will drip.
  Note: Many lock smiths and technicians DO NOT recemmend this type of repair for fear of damaging the electrical portion of the switch. They recommend full disassembly and cleaning.I have done this hundreds of times over the last thirty years with no failures or problems on many vehicle types.
