Volvo Repair: 1990 Volvo 760 GLE 6-cyl fuel inj., volvo 760 gle, bosch jetronic

Question
Hi Roger,
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me. I would very much like a complete description or explanation of how the fuel injection system works on my car. I am not exactly sure which system it is as there are so many. It has the B280F engine and the AW71 transmission. It uses a Bosch Jetronic ECU 0 280 001 512 (volvo # 3517846 and a Bosch Ignition Module 0 227 400 133 (volvo # 3501850). Hope this helps. How does this system work? I've read dozens of articles about fuel injection systems but none are exactly like the one on my car. The schematic in the Haynes manual shows all the injectors wired in parallel with +12 volts on one side and pin 13 of ECU connected to the other side. How does this system work with each individual cylinder getting the proper fuel mixture and proper firing sequence? It looks very confusing and I need help. Thanks again. Norman H.

Answer
Norman, its pretty much a basic injection system with a computer that controls the amount of fuel and pulse per injector.  It has a cold start valve and an coolant temp sensor that measures the amount of fuel for cold and warm starts.  Haynes is good for starting a fire and its too rough for toilet paper.  Why do you want to know this information anyway?  Does the car run properly?  Roger
