Volvo Repair: 1992 240 GL, fuel pressure regulator, vacuum hose

Question
I am having a problem starting my 240. I felt like I had narrowed it down to only rainy damp days, but today was a humid hot day and it wouldn't start again. It turns over, but doesn't want to fire up. it coughs and sputters. My first thought was that it needs a new distributor and/or perhaps new plugs.

Answer
Gary, good start but it sounds like its more than that.  Check to see if any fuel is coming out of the fuel pressure regulator.  Disconnect the vacuum hose and try to start it.  If any fuel comes out, replace the reg.  It may be cap and rotor and wires etc.  If they havent been replaced in a while then replace them as a maitenance item.  Lastely, it may be an engine speed sensor on top of the bell housing.  If its chaffed or has a yello band on it, replace it.  This is where I would start.  Roger
