Volvo Repair: 1989 740 sedan, irv gordon, p1800

Question
I'm too attached to my volvo to ever get rid of her.  There haven't been major issues.  I'm willing to buy a brand new engine whenever this one craps out.  Do you think it's worth it? The body, interior, tires, etc. are all perfect. So I'm just thinking about getting a new engine and transmission and maybe the steering wheel since I hear that should be replaced in old cars.

Answer
Chelsea, there is nothing wrong with that engine.  Those are hard to kill.  Keep the oil changed and service it regularly and you will have trouble free driving.  Who did you hear this information from?  The trans will go out before that engine.  I have cars in the shop with 700,000 plus miles.  Volvos are meant to drive and have high milage. Ask Irv Gordon.  His 1966 P1800 has the world record for Milage. 2,000,000.  Thats Million!  All he ever did was have the engine rebuilt at 700,000 only because he thought it was the right thing to do but it has never failed him.   Roger
