Volvo Repair: Convertible top, joe schmoe, volvo dealer

I have run into a problem with my 2000 C70 convertible top.  The top will go up and down but the cover part is stuck in the upright position.   Upon reading the manual, it states to use a tool from the provided tool kit to crank the top down.   But with the lid stuck in the upright position, I cannot open the trunk to get the tool box.   What could be going on?  The motor is obviously working since the top will go up and down.

Yvette, I run into problems with these cars all the time.  There is most likely a problem with one of the microswitches or potientiometer.  It also will need to be recalibrated.  I suggest taking it to the closest Volvo dealer.  Joe schmoe's garage will never know what to do.  Roger
