QUESTION: I am unable to remove the key from the ignition even though the car is in Park and even after repeatedly moving the gear shift back and forth into Park. Is there some way to release this without tearing apart the gear shift linkage?

ANSWER: Donald, clean the shift overide button with some cleaner and then spray silicone spray around the button.  Push it in and out and then move the shifter up.  You should be able to get your key out now. Common problem.  I see it at least once a week.  Roger

QUESTION: Thanks for responding, but I have followed your advice, the Shiftlock Override button moves freely, and I still cannot get the key out of the ignition.  Is there anything further that I can try?

Donald, Thats the only suggestion I have.  The button must be popped up fully.  Maybe use a needlenose pliers to help it a bit or more silicone spray around the sides of the button.  Other procedures will involve taking the center console out, etc and that should be left to a Volvo shop.  Roger
