Volvo Repair: 91 Volvo S40-Not starting, volvo s40, key reader

QUESTION: My volvo has been having more and more problems starting as of late.  When I turn the key I have power to all things but nothing happens with the engine.  No clicking, and nothing happens with the engine.  I just took it to the shop today and they charged me$600 bucks for a new starter and I went to turn it on tonight and nothing is different.  I have no idea what to even fight at this point.  Help?

Julia, okay then.  Completely different set up on the S40.  I had a problem with one of these and it turned out to be the fuse for the starter.  There is also a small starter relay that I have seen go bad.  That is where I would start.  I would also use your spare key and see if anything happens.  The main key may be getting weak and the key reader is not reading it properly.  Roger
