Volvo Repair: 2002 S80 T6 oil leak, dipstick tube, oil dipstick

Question
On my car I notice that oil is seeping out from the oil fill cap. I also see that when the car is running and I pull the oil dipstick out, smoke comes out of the dipstick tube.

Is this most likely the dreaded clogged breather valve/breather box problem? I am taking it to get checked out this week, but was wondering what other problems could cause those symptoms. The car only has 65K miles on it and I have been consistent with my oil changes (every 3K to 4K miles). It seems like low mileage to have a sludge buildup like that.

My friend told me that on the T6, you have to remove the entire intake manifold just to access the breather valve. Is this true?

Thanks.

Answer
Mark, your friend is correct.  It is labor intensive.  Be glad you dont have a 99.  all the bracketting for the compressor, alternator and power steering would have to come off as well because the geniuses at Volvo didnt cut a slot to access the bolt on the flame trap box.  Smoke is normal to be coming out of the tube when the car is running.  I would inspect the oil cap seal.  I change them at the services but they get hard and dont seal so oil seeps out.  I would try that first.  If the box was leaking, you would see if leaking at the seal on the block.  Roger
