Volvo Repair: transmisson leaking near the rearshaft, speed overdrive, center bolt

QUESTION: I own a 1983 240 dl-the transmisson fluid is leaking out at the rear-i was thinking it could be a tail shaft bushing
let me know your expertise on the problem -thank you,bob
also, it's a 2-dr with 104,ooo original miles

Bob, yes, that is called  the tailshaft bushing and then the seal.  There is a tool that removes the bushing, then the seal just gets tapped in.  You do have to take the drive shaft down to remove the center bolt on the flange as well as pulling off the flange.  Hope this gave you an Idea whats entailed.  Must be a nice car.  Dont see too many of them like that anymore.
