Volvo Repair: 2000 volvo C70 oil pressure warning light, 2000 volvo c70, old chevys

Question
QUESTION: Hello, Monday I had the oil changed they suggested A flush of the system , sounded like a good idea I paid around $100. A day or so later the oil pressure warning light starts flashing when I put on the brakes or stop at a light. It goes away when I start driving.  I am so afraid that this is going to be a huge expensive thing. Does changing the weight of oil make a difference? He put High Mileage oil in it. (my 2000 has 79000Mi) Am I going to be terribly sorry I did this?

ANSWER: Ellen, in a word, YES.  These clowns are just trying to sell you useless stuff.  High milage oil?  What the heck is that?  79,000 for a Volvo is still a new car.  What did happen is when they used that junk to flush the engine, it most likely messed up the o-rings on the oil pump, causing that light to come on.  The only thing that will fix this For a volvo shop to reseal the oil pump and pick up tube.  Lesson learned.  Stick with a Volvo shop.  Roger

QUESTION: Thanks for answering so fast. I just wanted to know if the car is ok to drive until I can afford the repairs? I know now not to take it just any where but he dealership is so far away and so expensive.

ANSWER: Ellen, I dont want to say yes to drive it and something happens then I will look like an idiot but I have seen people drive their cars with this symptom for a month without any issues.  Its your call but just becareful with it.  There are Volvo specialists shops all over the place.  I happen to work at one.  Yes, the dealer is expensive but that is what to expect when you own a Volvo.  Joe's Garage can do minor stuff like oil changes but when it comes to these new engines with variable timing, they are lost and stuck working on Old chevys.  If you need a hand finding a good Volvo shop other than the dealer, let me know where you live and I can help you find a reputable Volvo shop.  Roger

QUESTION: Wonderful! If you could help me find a reliable volvo shop I would be grateful.  I've been steering away from the dealer cause last time I was there to get the driver side window mechanism replaced it was $900. I live in Glendale Arizona On the west side of Phoenix. I have a hard time finding a good mechanic because I don't know what to look for and what to ask. Thanks again Roger

Answer
Ellen, not sure if they are a shop or a recylcle yard but you can try calling Hirsch Foriegn in Phoenix.  All the other places I have listed are Dealers.  There is a place in Tuscon but that is probably too far away.  Hirsch's number is 1800-544-4517.  Let me know what you find out.  Roger
