Volvo Repair: 1994 volvo 850`, volvo 850, transmission shop

Question
I recently purchased a 94 850 sedan with 144,000 miles on it. I have driven it about 1,500 miles and my son was using it and the manual transmission just up and quit. The motor  sped up but the car started losing speed. He brought it to a stop fearing he screwed up pushed the clutch in and put it in first gear and nothing, he tried reverse nothing, all gears and still nothing. Now when you push the clutch you can see the rod moving under the hood but it doesn't feel like it's moving anything nor can you feel the transmission shift into a gear. he was in 5th gear doing about 40mph after slowing down from 55mph. I'm not sure were to start, any suggestions?

Answer
Randy, check to see if the slave cylinder is leaking and check  to see what level the fluid is.  The clutch itself may have just let go.  Check those things first and if no luck have a Volvo shop take a look.  I wouldnt take it to Joes garage or a Transmission shop.  They will try to sell you a transmission.  Roger
