Volvo Repair: 1996 960 2.9 liter- burning oil, volvo dealer, valve job

165K miles. Car runs great, but seems to be burning 1qt. oil per 300-400 miles(1 tank of gas). Burns more at highway usage than city. Compression tested by Volvo dealer to be ok. Valve job done supposedly about 50k mi. ago. (before I bought car.) No drips under car. Any ideas?

Dana, welcome to the world of the 960.  Its normal for a 960 with this many miles to burn oil.  Even if the valve jobe was done, who knows who did it and if they did it properly or not.  Check your oil at every fill up.  If you want to spend the money, have the valve job done by a reputable Volvo shop.  Roger
