Volvo Repair: 1985 Volvo 240 DL, volvo 240 dl, jumper cables

Question
Hello Roger,
The red warning lights on the dash stay on, even after revving the engine. They are kind of dim, and seem to go out when the car idles. When I am going faster, (faster RPM's), the dash warning lights all come back on.  Also there is a buzzing noise in the radio when the lights come on. I checked the voltage coming to the battery, and it is at 13.5 volts.  I didn't notice any loose wires, and the belt tensions are all ok. The car runs very well, smoothly, and the battery cranks the engine fast when I start it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Paul Simcoe

Answer
Paul,
Try checking the ground strap- engine to frame or firewall. Sometimes, if attached with sheetmetal screws, they get loose. Also, if you can find it- check ground strap between body and frame- if you can't find it, just run a new one. In fact, the easiest check is to attach a temporary ground from the body to frame. You can use one wire of your jumper cables for this purpose.
