QUESTION: June 96 had turbo, maf and lambda senor replaced when car started smoking excessively.
feb 2007 failed mot excessively emissions new plugs cured problem.
December 2007 lambda light on car smoking excessively again new plugs fitted lambda light off but still smoking. parts and work used all from main Volvo dealer Taunton Somerset. do not seem to be able to get a straight answer as to why this keeps happening. help

You didn't say how many miles are on the car. Is it consuming oil? If so, it may be valve stem seals or rings. If you have any other clues, I might be able to narrow it down.

QUESTION: 98000 miles, just regular oil changes, have not noticed any oil loss

If car has been regularly maintained, valve stems and/or rings should not be an issue at 98,000 miles; unless, that is, it has been run hot at some time. Still, you shouldn't be going through plugs like that. If you saw the plugs, were they wet with oil when removed? If not, what does the dealer say the plug failure mode was?
