Volvo Repair: 1990 VOLVO 740 5-DOOR STATION WAGON, luggage compartment, volvo 740

Question

Your question was

Hi,

I have a 1990 Volvo 740 station wagon, and I need to remove the panel on the inside of the luggage compartment door.  I need to fix the brake light that's part of that panel, and also the window wiper linkage, which is behind the panel.

I have removed the twisting plastic plugs from around the edge of the panel.  But, I can't figure out how to remove the cover for the inside locking mechanism for that door.  That cover has to be removed in order to reach some bolts that tie the panel to the door itself.

This mechanism contains the handle used to open the luggage compartment door from the inside of the car (my model has a fith seat tucked away under the luggage compartment floor, thus if passengers use that seat they need a way to open the luggage compartment door from the inside).

I need help figuring out how to remove the cover for that locking mechanism, so that the entire inside panel for the luggage compartment door can be removed in order to serve the windshield wiper linkage.

I hope I have described the problem sufficiently, and I hope you can provide a description for how to solve it.

Sincerely,

Curt L. Gustafsson

Answer
Curt, your description was a bit much but its better to provide too much than not enough.  That cover is basically a pain, the only thing I can tell you to do on that is to push a screwdriver behind the cover and push towards the front of the car.  Do it on the corners and it should pop out. There are 2 screws behind that cover.  Roger
