Volvo Repair: Noisy rear brakes, rear brakes, brake noise

Question
Roger,
First thanks for helping me diagonse my center bearing problem, as it is now fixed. Now my new problem. I replaced the rear brak56re pads with Bendix semi-mettallic along with new rotors(Brembo). After a few days I have brake noise only when the brakes are applied. I pulled everything apart and this time I reassembled using Permatex "Disk brake quiet" on the pad plates. Well this worked correcting the noise for a few weeks but now the noise is back. By the way the brakes work fine. So now I have bought teflon  shims hoping this will correct the noise. If you agree with the shims should the "Disk brake quiet" be applied to both sides of the shims? Any suggestions are appreciated?

Answer
Bob, first of all get rid of the semi metallic pads.  That is the whole problem right there.  That disc brake quiet stuff is garbage.  Works good on american cars but not Volvos.  The teflon shims will help.  Buy danblock/rouunds brake pads and apply a silicone paste.  Its available from the dealer or perhaps an autoparts place.  Roger
