Volvo Repair: 1987 Volvo 240 Quit while Driving, volvo 240, paved shoulder

Question
Yesterday,8/3/2007 my 1987 240 shut down immediately after beginning to pull through an intersection.  It was raining medium hard but I did not run through deep water. Coasted to a stop on Paved Shoulder.  Gages, lights, radio, and all accessories working.  Tried to restart engine, but starter would not engage at all. Had car toed 100 yards to nearby shop and left over night for repair next morning.  Tried cranking one more time before leaving, but no response.  Next morning Mechanic goes to push car into shop, tries key and it fired up.  He never did find a single thing wrong.  Check battery, ECU, Fuses, etc.  No problems seen.

Have driven it about 100 miles since (no rain yet) with no problems.

Any ideas or advice.

1987 240 with 100 k miles automatic 4 door etc.

Answer
Don, that happens to me on a daily basis.  A customer says the car stalled and wont restart.  I get in it and the car starts up right away.  It may have something to do with the rain but without checking a few things I would only be guessing and I dont want to sent you down the wrong path.  Unfortunatly its a waiting game and if it happens again, take it back to your Volvo shop and see if he can find anything.  Roger
