Volvo Repair: Stalling 740, intermittent faults, component failure

Question
I have a 92 740 non-turbo. 294,000 miles, attended to pretty well as far as maintenance. The car runs and stalls intermitently at all speeds. It always starts back up after 5-10. min. The electric in the car still works, lights 4-ways , radio etc. It does not cough or sputter but just cuts out.  I have enquired with a area mechanic, he has said that it could be the Coil pack ( no coil with this model) Or a fuel system relay, or a crank position sensor.
Any ideas would be helpful, and at the same time the difficulty level of any of the repairs.
thanks in advance.

Answer
Intermittent faults are the hardest to repair.First we need to experience the problem, we can check fault codes, but that isn't an absolute. Any number of relays, wiring or component failure could be the culprit. A accurate service history is also helpful (any and all work performed on the car should be recorded and researched to avoid mistakes)
