Volvo Repair: Power Steering, volvo 740, steering rack

Question
I have a 1990 Volvo 740 Turbo 2316cc with a power steering problem and 146,000 miles on the clock. The steering is stiff when I attempt a sharp left turn at the bottom of my 10 foot long, slightly inclined drive.I am driving forwards incidently, not reversing down the slope. I end up waiting 5 minutes until it eases up.It seems only to happen the first time I drive it per day.Is this a steering fluid problem or a pump problem. Thank You for your time.

Answer
Is it only to the left? The symptom you describe we refer to as "morning sickness" but it is difficult to steer the car in either direction. It usually dissipates quickly. The problem is in the steering rack. I have flushed power steering systems to relieve this symptom, only to have it return in most cases.Replacing the steering rack is the fix.
