Volvo Repair: 1985 245 Electrical High Beam:, bulb failure, high beams

Question
QUESTION: I have replaced the sealed beam hi inside light and replaced the head light relay I checked wires at light and cleaned, I have also replaced all fuses with new one;s.
The high beam will not flip on, the signal light switch works and I have checked at column for loose connection and cleaned termanals.  Do you think it is the switch just for the high beam.  I get a warning light showing bulb out but the only bulbs not working are the two high beam.

I love my volvo but this is about to beat me.  Any suggestions.

ANSWER: Earl, which relay did you replace? The big silver one by the battery?  I would try a used turn signal stalk.  Ive seen them go bad too.  The bulb failure relay can also be the culprit.  Roger

QUESTION: Hello Roger,
You were correct on the relay I did replace the big silver headlight relay behind the battery, I have now followed you advise and replaced the signal stalk with a new one, could not find a used one. Still no high beam.
recap of what has been addressed ( New lamps low and high #4651 & 4656 new relay new stalk new fuses I did not replace the bulb failure relay since it was replaced less than a year ago. Tracing this problem is starting to get expesive with the relay and stalk totaling about $100 not to mention the bulbs.  Any way I can check to see if the bulb failure relay is the problem without buying a new one. Any other ideas I can trouble shoot.

All light on the car work (turn, brake, running etc..except high beam.

Answer
Earl, this one is really baffling me.  Technically, your high beams should work with what you are telling me.  There is no way to test that bulb failure unit.  If the brake lights are working, then the relay is okay.  I know this is a long shot but see if there is a small silver relay by the brake pedal to the left.  86 cars had those so Im wondering if yours may have had the since it may be a late 85 car.  Get back to me earl.  I can look up the wiring diagram.  I may be missing something but I dont think so.
