Volvo Repair: Volvo anti rust measures., electronic rust protection, minor rust spots

Question
Hello, I am inquiring about the measures Volvo uses to keep a rust free body.  I drive a Volvo S70 T5 automatic with the winter package in Canada, it is subjected to relatively harsh conditions.  My questions are as follows.

1.  Are Volvos generally resistant to rust as compared to most vehicles; what measures do they use to protect metal as it becomes aged(chassis wheel wells, body etc.)

2.  For rust bubbles(very small, size of a penpoint) is it better to leave it untouched, or to grind that spot down and touch it up?  If touching it up is the best option, what is the most effictive method to do so?

3.  Is undercoating a 9 year old car going to have a positive impact on the longevity of the metal?

I am very meticulous about my things, rust annoys me to no end, which is why I wash my car frequently, oil my chassis, use electronic rust protection as well as paint protection.  Naturally I can't take care of a car before I own it.  As I am the second owner a few paint nics on the roof and rear trunk have resulted in extremely minor rust spots.  This has resulted in me inquiring as to the best way to rectify the situation.

Thank you in advance for your reponse!

Regards.

Answer
Jesse, All Volvos are dipped in acid and coated with anti rust and rust proofing.  some dealers had ziebart or performed their own rust protection service.  For piece of mind, I would have it redone around the wells, etc.  I wouldnt grind the spot down.  Touching it up will be fine and prevent it from getting worse.  Im not a body man but I have restored ground up projects.  I suggest you take it to a good body and paint guy and see what he thinks.  Roger
