Volvo Repair: Transmission and motor mounts, crossmember, emergency brake

Question
Roger I wanted to know the steps involved in replacing the transmission mount on a 1983 240DL. I also wanted to know if you recommend changing the motor mounts at the same time since a three point mounting system seems like it would all be inter-connected. I think my transmission mount is bad and when I last had my oil changed my oil filter was against the passenger side motor mount. When I accelerate I get a noise that sounds like my emergency brake is being pulled back.

Answer
Larry, its fairly easy but on the floor will not be fun.  I would put a floor jack with a block of wood then jack up trans a little.  Remove the 4 trans crossmember 14mm bolts and the 2 on the back of the trans.  Now you have the whole piece to work with on the bench.  The motor mounts will be harder to do on the floor but I would put the trans mount in first, then do your motor mounts.  Might be better to have your Volvo shop to the repair.  Roger
