Volvo Repair: 1994 volvo 850 turbo, mass air sensor, charcoal canister

hi there, i have a few questions for you, i have replaced the throttle sensor, mass air sensor, idle control sensor, car is running a little better except for the black smoke coming out of the exhaust, could this be in link to the charcoal canister at all, my car went off into a ditch and it was hit on the left side fender well so that is why i am thinking maybe the canister also i smell gas when it is blowing out the smoke, the car idles fine but it really wont get up and go like it is not getting enough of something if you can give meyour input i would greatly appreciate it .....tanya

Tanya,  This car may be overfueling thus causing the gas smell and black smoke.  You need to also check all the rubber hoses.  From what you are describing, it sounds like a big hole in one of them. That also causes the black smoke and lack of get up and go.  Lastly would be a bad Turbo which rarely ever goes bad on a 850.  Roger
