Volvo Repair: Transmission Issue with 2001 V70 Cross Country, volvo v70 cross country, volvo mechanics

Question
Hello:
My 2001 Volvo V70 Cross Country (AWD) has an intermittent problem where the transmission feels like it drops into or shifts gears very hard. It happens most often when the transmission downshifts into the lower gears like when downshifting to go up a hill. As it shifts there is a significant jolt to the car. The problem can even occur when sitting at a light as if the car was not really in gear and then finally engages into gear. When you pull away from a light, the problem is likely to occur as well. It does not happen every time or even predictably enough for my usually good mechanic to find the problem. The problem seems to require the car to be warm to occur as it does not happen from the first time you get in the car (part of why my mechanic can't find the problem). Diagnostic tests by my mechanic have revealed nothing. He replaced a mounting bracket on top of the engine but that had no effect. If he clears the diagnostic code, the warning light will return within a day or so when the transmission exhibits the problem. The warning light says transmission service required and the check engine light comes on. When the light was reset to off, I was sitting at a light, I gently accelerated to advance when the light turned green, the transmission jolt occurred and the Transmission service/check engine light came on immediately. The problem does not exhibit itself at all at higher speeds but by 35 or 40 mph the car is typically already in the highest gear. If you ignore the jolt from the transmission, the car works fine. The car has had this problem for months and a few thousand miles. No other indications of imminent failure of any kind. The car has been serviced by Volvo mechanics at all normal service intervals. The transmission fluid and filter were changed recently and may have helped the problem in a minor way. The car has 100000 miles on it. I do not know the code read out when the Transmission service/check engine light comes on. The car is not very pleasant to drive in this condition. Could my torque converter be bad? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would also be happy to answer any questions that might help your diagnosis.

Answer
try this first to fix your problem  go to Volvo dealer and perform  transmission control module software update  it will fix some of your problems  do that first  and see how it goes
you will not feel the delay hard engament  from stops anymore
also for transmission fluid you have to use only Volvo original  syntetic fluid it cost around $130 for fluid  use that fluid or you will have more problems in future  that cost more money
