Volvo Repair: Defective Electronic Throttle System Pcodes, volvo vadis, vadis system

Question
Hi again Roger, thanks for the prompt reply.  I started to reply yesterday then called customer service and was shut down on all counts including any crossreference to Pcodes.  They say there is no recall on TB system only software upgrades and even that is not a recall.  My Vadis doesn't show codes and wont find my after-market OBD-II scanner.

I wonder how many tranny's were condemned which were good but incorrectly diagnosed as a result of this problem?

I bought a used 2000 S80-T6 TB today which I will open up when it arrives.  I don't know the design but there are only so many ways they can made this work. My guess it's either carbon wipes or optical and here is where I am guessing the problems lie.  Just like a scratchy volume control that works in some places and then is noisy in others; that noisy signal is being translated as a legit signal which the rest of the network tries to understand but with conflicts the tranny gets confused.

Write me off list if you don't mind for I have something that might interest you.

Thanks,
GTM

Hi Roger:

GTM, They are required to perform the throtle recall, its the law.  Doesnt matter if you are not the original owner.  As far as the tranny goes.  Since its that garbage GM trans, we have seen those 99's that have 10 miles on them and the trannys are toast.  99 was the worst S80 on the planet.  Nothing but a headache.  They have gotten better but still are a nightmare.  If you have a defective throtle, the ETS light should be coming on.  I dont use PCODES, we have the Volvo VADIS system in the shop.  Roger

Answer
GTM, I guess that representative doesnt read very well.  There was a technical bulletin and a class action suit against Volvo for defective Throtle Bodies.  I would call the Tech line instead of the morons at customer service.  There are the upgrades also.  They are just passing the buck as usual.  Roger
