Volvo Repair: Brake Lights, volvo 240dl, decent shape

Question
I have a 1991 Volvo 240DL, with 60,000 miles (my mother purchased new). The brake lights and light indicator on the dash are driving us NUTS! The brake lights work okay if the headlights are NOT on. However when you turn the head lights on, the only brake light that operates is the one on the back interior deck inside the car. We have checked all the bulbs for correct type etc and also the fuses. Also the light bulb indicator on the dash comes on and off whenever it take a notion. My husband swears the car is possessed - hope you can help.

Answer
Cathe, common issues on the 240's.  Have your husband or you step on the brake and check the connector on the back of the taillight assembly.  jiggle it and see if anything changes.  You can buy the circuit boards separately if your assemblies are in decent shape.  If not, then get new assemblies.  Roger
