Volvo Repair: smoking front end, volvo 850, nicoderm

Question
My daughter's '96 Volvo 850 front end smokes while she's driving but no warning/overheat lights appear.  We got a new transmission two months ago and she noticed the slight smoking immediately and now its increased. (She didn't tell me this right away) She isn't driving the car now. What is causing this? Has she damaged something? Did the mechanics install the transmission correctly. If I take it back to the shop what do I tell them?

Answer
Marie, tell them the car needs some nicoderm.  Just kidding.  Anyway, sounds like something isnt right or something is dripping on the exhaust manifold and can be something totally different from the transmission.  It may be serious.  I would have them check it out and get back to me so I can tell you if they are trying to rip you off.  Roger
