Volvo Repair: 1998 V90 Service Reminder Indicator, service reminder, time james

Question
James,
I'm aware that you profess to be knowledgable about Volvos starting with 1999 but is it possible that you might have slipped back a little into 1998? I have a V90 of that vintage and it just flipped past the 100,000 mile mark.
Took it in for a check up and a new dose of Mobile 1 but they didn't reset the Service Reminder Indicator.
I tried your instructions for 2001, they didn't work. Is the routine different for 1998, or is it me?
Thanks for being out there.

Answer
1998 was a special year for the service remionder light.  The instructions I gave for that 2001 model only works going back to 1999.  For 1998 exclusively, to reset the service light you need to use the volvo handheld scan tool.  A quick trip to the dealer will fix that problem.  If you call ahead and talk to one of the servce writers and let them know that is all you need, they should be able to fix you right on the service drive in a matter of minutes and have you on your way within no time.
