Volvo Repair: Volvo S60 PCV Valve, oil seperator, flame trap

Question
I have a question in regards to a 2001 Volvo S60 2.4 Non-Turbo.  When the engine is warmed up and running hot, I get a whistling sound which I thought might be a vacuum leak.  I have discussed this with other people who have told me to check the PCV Valve and have told me how to fix it, but I have not found any diagrams that have told me where it is located on the vehicle.  I would appreciate it if you could tell me where to look and also if you think this "whistling" might be some other problem.

Thank You,

Howard

Answer
If you start to hear the whistling sound and then you uncap the oil fill cap and the whistling stops then the crankcase breater is the problem.  It is not however a PCV valve.  Volvo motors use a air/oil seperator box called a flame trap.  It is attached to the front of the block underneath the intake manifold.  It is fairly easy to remove once you remove the intake manifold.  The bolt on the left side of the box is hard to access though.  You will need a special tool that can reach through there to access it.  If you cannot find anything then the only way to get the bolt out is to damage the bracket or remove the bracket for the alternator/ps pump/compressor.
