Question -
I have a 1999 V70XC with 114k miles. Recently the car started to skip/sputtering when i try to go past 50 MPH. It just does it for a second. Once i pass 50 MPH, it drives ok. When i have to acclerate past 50 MPH or going up a hill around 50 MPH it does makes  sound. Is it transmission skipping or the turbo? Please help!

Does it misfire? Does it surge forward and back? Does it have less power or the same afterwards? Are there any warning lights on in the dash? Does it do it all the time or only sometimes?  Hard gas or light gas? Does it do it at a shift point or any time?  Any other descriptions can help I may have missed.

Answer
Well I can't say for sure which it is.  If it the check engine light is the only light on I would say it is most likely a spark plug or ignition coil that is causing misfires.  If the arrow light is on it is most likely a transmission issue.  If no warning at all it is probably a software/trans issue that is not strong enough to set a trouble code yet.  I wish I could be more specific but this one will need a hands on evaluation to verify exactly whats going on.  I would try taking it to a dealer for a diagnostic.  Usually it is only 1 hour of labor (anywhere from 75-120 dollars depending on the area).
