Volvo Repair: immobilizer on 2001 V70 t-5, diy installation, immobilizer

Question
No crank situation, then starts.  Immobilizer message on dash so I think that's the problem.  Called the closest dealer 70 miles away.  Part (antenna ring?)that they say is the likely culprit is $58.00.
What's involved in a DIY installation?  Any reprograming required?  Do you concur that this is the likely problem?  I'm willing to gamble $58 have it mailed and DIY if it will save me a 140 mile round trip.  Is this a plug in device?  Thanks.  Scott

Answer
Scott, we have had those happen before but I cant remember if we had to download or not.  Its a stupid part and you could do it yourself but I dont want you to take the chance of doing that and then not being able to start the car without the download if it needs it.  What the part is is the ring that goes around the ignition lock so it reads the key.  You just need to take the upper and lower covers off of the steering wheel then you can access it.  I would call the dealer and ask them about the download just to be sure.  Roger
