Volvo Repair: 1993 Volvo 850 ventilation question, vent system, vent hole

Question
Hi,

I have a very bad smell that is clearly inside the vent system.  When the fan is turned on, the smell is coming out of the vents.  How should I access the vent system to investigate if there is a dead animal or some other foreign debris that is causing the problem?  I assume the problem is near the entance to the vent system, but I don't know where this is to start looking.

Thanks for your help and any ideas you may have!

Answer
Eric, what you are smelling is probably the evaporator.   Over the years, Mold and junk accumulates creating the dead animal smell.  If you want to check the vent hole, open the hood and remove the 2 25 torx screws from the black cowl on the passenger side.  lift up the black cowl gently and look in the hole.  Roger
