Volvo Repair: 1991 Volvo Starting Problems, volvo 740, metal fuel

Question
1991 Volvo 740 with B230F engine.

I had a problem with the old metal fuel pump (in tank).  I replaced the old fuel pump assembly with a new one.  I just did a tune up (wires are in proper firing order); replaced the fuel filter under the driver's side of car.  Replaced battery (8/14/2006).  When I go to start the car, it turns over, but won't start.  I have tried priming pump (turing key to on then off four times)and nothing.  I am kindof at a loss.  There is fuel in the vehicle, and I have checked for any loose connections and do not find any.  I was thinking that it may be the ignition coil.  The starter is fine.  the vehicle has not had a tune up or replacement of parts since 8/2002.  The parts that were replaced were either rusty, plugs where black, fluffy powder - meaning carbon.  Can you give me any suggestions.  Thank you

Answer
First thing to do is check for spark.  On the 91 there are a few things that will make the car spark.  The speed sensor on top of the bell housing, the ignition power stage, and of course the distributor.  Did you check to see if the timing belt was broken?  There are so many factors that you need to cover first.  Let me know.  Roger
