Volvo Repair: Shop location, blown head gasket, tank leaks

Question
No I do not however, today I looked under the hood and replaced the air filter with a K and N and noticed that the box was not even connected to the radiator or the engine. The metal phone that goes from the box to the engine is shreded and the plastic hose that goes from the box to the radiator was disconnected. I fixed the plastic one but, the metal one I will have to have someone replace. I drove my usual route to work Ft Lauderdale to MIA and noticed it ran better and the coolant stayed in it. This of course was just one day.

Roger,

That is too bad the previous owner came from Fort Myers to Ft Lauderdale. Let me explain all the things wrong with my 1996 Volvo 850. I am going into debt with this car. The A/C was not working so I took it to a Volvo shop and he filled the Freon and put stop leak in the A/C. He told me that it might work 50/50 chance if not it may be the condencer and to fix that he has to take the entire dash off to get to it which would cost about 1500. Well my A/C still blows hot air so that is why I asked you about your shop. The other major problem I am having is that my gas tank leaks gas when it is full. I think it is cracked because the previous owner took it in for the recall when they had the recall in 96. Also the coolant which I am most concerned about is disapearing. I am filling up the coolant every few days but, can not find a leak anywhere neither could the volvo guy. He did a compression test and said that it passed so it was not a blown head gasket and just replaced the radiator cap but, where is the fluid going. The tranny is not milky and the oil is fine as well. I am not smoking out of the tail pipe but, the fluid stays there for a couple of days then slowly disapears causing the coolant light to come on and have to fill it back up. Is it being burned off because I need a new thermostat? Is it going into the valves? Any ideas on that one? Is this car worth saving.

Roger I live in Ft Lauderdale and noticed that you answered a question about AC for a 1996 Volvo. Well mine is just not working and the price you quoted was around 500 less than what I got. Where is your shop thanks

Answer -
John, We are in Fort Myers.  What did I tell the other person?  Was it a quote for a Evap Job?  Roger

Answer -
John, do you know the previous customers name?  Roger

Answer
John, Sounds like this thing is a mess.  I wish these techs would not put that stop leak crap in peoples cars.  It doesnt work and you cant get all of it out when you flush the system.  We are about $985 plus tax on the evap job.  Yes its very labor intensive and the dash had to come out.  Not sure what to think on the coolant leak.  It has to be going somewhere.  Roger
