Volvo Repair: Flakey Idle/Black Smoke from Exhaust/, air flow meter, throtle body

Question
1995  850 Turbo  150K  Earlier today, after running a short errand, I started my car, and black smoke out of exhaust pipe, inconsitent idle--b/w 500 - 1200 rpms.  I also noticed a sulphur smell.  Internet suggests MAF (air flow meter).  Also car has lag when pressing the accelerator, but catches up with patience. Car won't start with MAF unplugged and stops running if I unplug MAF.  Also, there could be a slight hiss while car is accelerating, coming from front (wheels maybe) of car.  If MAF, can it be cleaned?  Also, is there another sensor in the air cleaner housing that should be replace?
Thank You!

Answer
GG, No, the MAF cannot be cleaned and since car will not run without it plugged in, then that indicates a bad MAF.  I would have hoped you told me the Check engine light was on.  You could have read the codes for me.  Also, Sounds like you have a leak in one of the turbo hoses.  I would also clean the Throtle body.  Roger
