Volvo Repair: rear brake lights, s40 volvo, brake switch

I have a 2000 s40 volvo.  My gear shift got stuck in park and would not go into any other gear.  My husband pushed the shiftlock override button and was able to get the car into gear, but now my brake lights will not go out.  We turned the car off and got out of the car and the brake lights remained on.

Mary, I must say that I have never heard of that happening before.  I would check the brake switch on the pedal and see if it somehow got pushed in.  Check fuses as well.  It may also be a module that has gone bad.  These cars have too many computer gizmos on them. Roger
