Volvo Repair: 98 V70 ABS/TRACS error, aluminum block, fuse box

Question
Both the ABS and TRACS warning lights go on and off intermittently
on my 98 V70 (80k mi).  Also, I can feeland hear some sort of rapid
vibration in the brake pedal every now and then.  This usually
causes the lights to come on (if they aren't already).  Any ideas? I'm
pretty handy, could I fix this myself?   Thanks...

Answer
It almost certainly needs a new abs module.  Its impossible to tell without getting a diagnosis from a volvo diagnostic computer though.  If you want, you can get the dealer to perform a diagnosis, and if that is the problem, repair it yourself.  It is fairly easy to do.  You just need a special socket to get the screws out.  The new module comes with screws, so take one of them to Sears and get one of the people there to find you the right tool.  Its on the bottom of the hydraulic abs modulator.  It is the aluminum block with the motor and lines attached to it on the underside of the fuse box.  4 screw and 2 electrical connectors.  Should take 20 minutes with the proper tools.
