Volvo Repair: volvo 1999 s80 bushing, volvo s80, bushings

Question
I've got a 1999 volvo s80 with about 40,000 miles that I noticed jarring on bumps on the right front with bumps and took in for service.
they say it's the bushing and that it's 1.5 hours labor but that since you should never do just one side with suspension, it'll be three hours. since they are taking it all apart anyway, they recommend replacing the struts while they're in there (even though they aren't leaking or other signs of failure) and they may but probably won't have to replace the bearings.
suddenly a $200 job is a $750 to $1000 job.  this doesn't make a lot of sense to me. are they right or is this eally overkill?  thanks

Answer
Well it doesn't add any labor to replace the struts while they're in there so it makes sense if you want to save money on repairs in the long run.  Honestly though, they hardly ever go bad on those cars.  I would go with just the bushings.  Also, when its under warranty we're only allowed to replace the one side that is broken and no one really seems to notice any difference, so if only one side is broken you may just want to do that.  At least do one at a time to see if it feels funny to you.  If it feels uneven, go back and do the other side.  Its still only another 1.5 hours right?
