Volvo Repair: high engine pressure, volvo mechanics, irv gordon

Question
Hi,  I have a 1990 Volvo wagon (not the turbo)740.
It has 150,000 miles and it is blowing oil out the dipstick shaft.  I had a mechanic check the car and he said the engine pressure was extremely high.  He said the engine was about to blow a head gasket.  I was hoping for a second opinion before I make the decision to junk her.  I'd like to add that the cruise control went out at about the same time the oil started blowing.  Could the two problems be related?  Thanks so much for any helpful suggestions.

Answer
Mary, Thats because Non-volvo Mechanics dont know what the difference between a lawn mower engine and a Volvo Engine is.  The problem is a clogged Flame trap filter.  Its like a PVC system on American cars.  Once its clogged it builds pressure in the engine.  Its basically not allowing the engine to breath.  Just for curiousitys sake did he do a compression test?  150 thousand miles?  I have cars come in the shop with 4-5 hundred thousand on it and they are still purring. That car is still new.  The record so far for a volvo engine is a 1966 P1800 driven by Irv Gordon and he has over 2 MILLION miles on it.  As far as the cruise goes, the bellows might be broken since oil was dripping on it.  Roger
