Volvo Repair: purchasing used Volvo, passing emissions, mechanical skills

Question
I,m looking @ an '87 740 wagon, not running,{owner says "fuel system problem"}.body fair needs tires and battery at least. She want $1000.Ihave an'81 240 that is fairly reliable.Question:is a 740 as reliable as a 240?Considering I don't know for sure what is wrong with the 740,is her asking price fair?I have some mechanical skills and tools but not much experience with Volvos.

Answer
Hi Gerald,
        DON'T BUY THIS CAR!!!!
Use the 240 and the 740 is a much more complex car....and you will pay mucho to get it right.
Many nother reasons come to mind....tires...unkonwn cost in repairing car...passing emissions.....PLUS...a thou is a fair price for this car...if it ran and was mostly inspectable and ready for the road.
AGAIN, DON'T BUY THIS CAR...YOU'LL be sorry if you do.
