Volvo Repair: Volvo S40 Starting Problems, 2000 volvo s40, volvo s40

Question
I have a 2000 Volvo S40 with 112,000 miles on it.  I haven't had any issue with it since I bought it with 109,000 miles, but today I got back in to crank it up and it wouldn't start.  All dash lights came on fine and everything "power" worked. It didn't not make any noise whatsoever, just wouldn't start.  Any ideas why?  According to the service book the previous owner did maintain maintenance schedule per Volvo recommendation.  The only light that has come on is the "Service" light on the dash just recently.  Thanks very much.

Answer
Well it sounds like one of two things, the immobilizer or the starter.  If when you attempt to start the car a light on the dash flashes (car with an X through it) your start attempt is being disabled.  If that light does not flash then it is attempting to start but nothing is happening.  I would suspect the starter on that car because the start control on this model is significantly less complicated than other models.  I cannot be 100% sure of any diagnosis without seeing the car, but I would start there.
