Volvo Repair: 1999 Volvo S80 T6 -- SRS light on, replace SRS module, volvo s80, 1999 volvo s80

Question
Dealer tells me codes indicate that the "brain" of my airbag (SRS) system is bad.  The "Urgent, SRS.." and the red airbag icon just came on, no accident, no airbag deployment, etc.

Anyway, if its just replacing a sensor (part is about $350), can I do this myself or is it complicated.  Also, any suggestions on where to get the part?

Answer
Well I would tend to trust their diagnosis.  The control module can only be replaced by them because you won't be able to program it yourself.  A sensor you can replace yourself but you will have to pay a dealer to turn the light out.  Without know what diagnostic trouble codes they got from your vehicle I could not deny or confirm their diagnosis for sure.  The most common failure however is for the airbag itself to fail (always the one inside the seats).  If you don't trust their diagnosis you can always go to another dealer and get their diagnosis.  I can't help anymore unless you can provide me with the printout from your srs module; maybe they can give you a copy of the DTC's they got from your computer and you could forward the info to me.  Hope that helps.
