Volvo Repair: 1983 Volvo (242) DL (manual trans.), fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump relay

Question
Hi, I have a 1983 DL and my husband has tried everything to get it started.  It has been sitting for a year and he changed the oil filter, distributor cap, spark plugs, wires, battery, cleaned injectors, checked the gas line, checked the computer in it and we also tried to jump it off and even took it to a so-called mechanic.

It is still not running.  It will crank up and run for a minute or two and then it cuts off.  My husband pulled off the web about some default with the fuel injectors.  Can you tell me what it could be? PLEASE?

Answer
Hi Monica,
Sorry to hear about your car problem.
There are more than a few reasons as to why your ..83 240 won't stay running.
Your best dollar value is to take the car to a Volvo service dept...or a competant mechanic who knows Volvos...there out there...It makes no sense to pay for a bad decision that costs you hundreds..this often happens..most of the systems used in that kind of fuel injection need to be tested..included the fuel feed from the fuel tank...You could go to junk yard and buy..the right part...when you know what you need.
Of the possible problems your 240 may have...failed ECU...fuel pressure regulator...Ign.con.Unit..fuel pump relay..ign coil.

              Good luck,
