Volvo Repair: Door Hinge, door hinge, body panels

I have a 1999 V70.  The front passenger door has what looks like a brass strut going from the jamb to interior of door.  It appears to be misaligned and when the door is opened/closed there is a loud "CRACKING" sound.  I believe the driver side door suffered from this and now the door has no "stops" in its travel, that is the door swings out without any  tension on its travel.

The welds for the door stops/detents breaks causiong a loud CRACK every time it hits a stop position.  It happens on alot of S/V70s from 98-2000.  You'll have to go to a body shop to get it repaired.  If that is not the case with your car then the crack sound is coming from body panels making contact, which is still an issue for a good body shop.
