Volvo Repair: 1998 V70XC Turbo Oil leak, steam engine, leak oil

Question
Hi;
I have a 1998 V70XC 105K miles. The dealer originally traced the oil leak to the turbo rear seals, which he replaced. The leak persisted, so he cleaned up the engine, reapplied the dye in the oil and now he thinks the leak is from the turbo itself, a $2,000 replacement.
I love my car, have maintained it well.
The question is: At about 1/2 quart per month, how long can I continue to drive it as is, should I get another opinion, or just bite the bullet and replace the turbo? Is it possible the leak is coming from elswhere? He showed me where there was a drop of new oil collecting under the turbo itself, after running the car with the dye for 1/2 hour.
Thanks
Larry

Answer
Well having one drop of oil or two on the bottom of the turbo isn't uncommon or really any kind of problem. They will seep a VERY small amount.  If it was on the compressor portion, you're fine.  If it was on the return line itself then its still leaking.  The turbo has internal components that if they leak oil will blow it into the exhaust and/or intake causing your tailpipe to smoke like a steam engine.  If its leaking on the outside then one of the lines is leaking.  The turbo itself won't leak in that manner.  I think the mechaninc is getting frustrated with your car and wants to make sure its fixed.  If he did the seal wrong and now its leaking again then he is obligated to do it again for free if its within a certain time/mileage.  I think he's trying to cover his ass because no one wants to work for free.  Seek a second opinion.
