Volvo Repair: 1988 volvo 740 gle w/automatic transmission problems, volvo 740 gle, automatic transmission problems

I have some mechanical skills. I do all of my own general maintenance. the car has 212,000 miles on it. The car will not shift into the final gear until the car has been fully warm at least for a few minutes. I was told from the previous owner that i needed to replace the overdrive solenoid. I replaced and no change. Would you have any other ideas?

Hello Brett,
          Volvo auto trans. are delicate and do not like any kind of abuse,,,including ..forgetting to change the trans, fluid...I recommend that you shop around and find a high quality trans. cleaner and follow the directions..
             I doubt that your problem is related to a failed O D relay...it may be a good idea to look at it too..
    you may consider looking at the trans. shift cables...connected to throttle controls...if these cables appear to have changed adjutments...you may have to adjust them.
